Program Goals
The Geronimo Blazing Stars program is designed to introduce the fundamentals of women’s lacrosse and to build confidence, sportsmanship and relationships through team sports. No experience is required, as the format is structured for the beginner, with emphasis on basic stick and game skills. The program will be directed by Dodi Alloca who has worked with Geronimo since its' inception. Dodi will be assisted by Annie Richards the varsity lacrosse coach at Collegiate School, Ned Sinnott a former varsity lacrosse coach at Collegiate, and Brooke Ireland, the varsity assistant coach at Collegiate School and the head coach of Geronimo's Girls' Elite Team.
Coaches
Each Blazing Stars team will have at least two coaches. Coaches include former high school and college players in lead roles, with support from current high school players.
Sessions
The 2010 season will begin with a skill review and assessment on February 28, 2010 from 1:30-4:00
the Robins Campus). This session will allow us to more accurately assign teams, offer all players individual attention and instruction as they prepare for the coming season, and will allow beginners a chance to learn the basics of the game in a non competitive format.
After the skill review and assessment
the Robins Campus) on Sunday February 28, 2010 Geronimo will host a Blazing Stars Players and Parents Meeting scheduled for: 4:30-5:30 PM in Jacob's Gym @ Collegiate's Mooreland Rd Campus. At the meeting, players will complete the registration process, receive their uniforms, and we will provide a philosophical and logistical overview of the program and answer questions. The first few sessions will be focused on individual skills and will be coached using a clinic format. Once teams are formed, a typical session will include a 45 minute team practice session (more than a warm up) followed by a 45 minute intra-league game. Make-up dates will be added if we have postponements of regularly scheduled days due to weather constraints.
Requirements
All Blazing Stars players receive a Geronimo jersey, shorts and a mouth guard. Girls must provide their own sticks and eye goggles, required protective eyewear since 2004. See equipment information for more details and purchasing alternatives. Goalie equipment is provided by Geronimo.
