Warriors Program Division III: Boys Grade 4
The Warrior DIII program is structured to introduce / enhance basic lacrosse skills and game concepts. In order to allow for the best environment for development and confidence we have separated the fourth grader from the 5th-6th grade (Division I). Fourth graders will not "play-up" in the Division 1 league under any circumstance. Players will be divided into evenly matched teams for individual team practice and game play. At least two coaches will be assigned to each team. Warrior coaches include former high school and college players with excellent experience and knowledge. The season will end with a Championship Tournament with every team continuing to advance so that all teams play the same number of games. Chris Rusbuldt and Chuck White are the Warrior program directors this year, responsible for team assignment, game schedule, etc.
The 2010 season will begin with a skill review and assessment on February 27, 2010 from 12:30-3:00. This session will allow us to more accurately assign teams, offer all players individual attention and instruction as they prepare for the coming season, and will allow beginners a chance to learn the basics of the game in a non competitive format. Throughout the season we will have a number of other skill based review sessions that will allow us to insure that we are doing our best to maintain the level of quality technique instruction that we strive to offer. This will not have any impact on the amount of time dedicated to game play. On days where games are scheduled, the players will practice as a team or by position as a league for 30-45 minutes (focusing on fundamental skills and concepts) before playing a 45 minute game. The games are intended to be an opportunity to gain playing experience in a developmental environment. Playing time is not guaranteed for players who repeatedly miss practices. A season schedule will be posted on the Geronimo website. It’s important that players and parents notify coaches in advance of any planned absences.
After our first session
the Robins Campus) on February 27, 2010 Geronimo will host a Warrior Players and Parents Meeting scheduled for 3:30-4:30 PM in Jacob's Gym @ Collegiate's Mooreland Road Campus. At the meeting, players will complete the registration process and receive their uniforms. We will also provide a philosophical and logistical overview of the program and answer questions
Geronimo will provide a jersey, shorts and mouth guard. All players are required to provide a stick, helmets, gloves, cleats, arm and shoulder pads, all approved for lacrosse play by lacrosse sanctioning bodies. See the equipment page for more information and purchasing alternatives. Registration may be limited to 72 players, on a first-come basis, depending on final coaching availability and other factors.
